Welcome to my site. I will be Chronicling the construction of our new home. Here is a brief history of my experiance in this area. I moved every few years as a child. As an adult I stayed in one house for 25 years, but helped remodel it four times. From a minor bath redo to adding an entire second story to the house. Now my husband and I have moved to AZ to care for my elderly parents and are undertaking to be the owner/builders of a custom home. Some people don't like change but I guess I'm not one of them. Or perhaps it is just limited change I like. To my husband's current dismay I helped build a 4000 square foot house in Romania in 2001. We took it from slab to fully furnished in 11 days. I therefore have meager patience for the pace of building here in Arizona.

We Have Won At Last!

The weather today was predicted to be dry, the high was supposed to move over near the California border and send the moisture their way. At 6:10 am our roofer called to say he was going to roof our house today. At 8:45 am they were there, up on the roof beginning to get to work. He had sent 3 crews, we saw 10 people when we checked. At 11:15, when we came out of a meeting with a lighting expert, we were shocked to see a HUGE thunderhead building in the mountains directly north of our lot. After lunch we went out to the lot, the thunderhead has dissipated somewhat but there were still lots of clouds building all around town. The roof deck was now black and it appeared that they were laying another layer. At 4:00 pm the heavens opened up and dumped rain on that area of town. I was visiting a friend in that area and her gutters were overflowing. After dinner we went out to see the house, admittedly with a bit of fear and trepidation. We found some water in the house but it appeared it had all come in the window openings. While we were out there it began to rain lightly and we saw no leaks so it appears we finally, really and truely have a roof!!

Next step? Well it feels like three or four at the same time because we are in the middle of many decisions and getting bids for future work. Most noticable will be Friday when the windows arrive. It may take more than one day to get them all installed. Photos will be posted!
