Arizona build'n

Name:
Location: Arizona, United States

Welcome to my site. I will be Chronicling the construction of our new home. Here is a brief history of my experiance in this area. I moved every few years as a child. As an adult I stayed in one house for 25 years, but helped remodel it four times. From a minor bath redo to adding an entire second story to the house. Now my husband and I have moved to AZ to care for my elderly parents and are undertaking to be the owner/builders of a custom home. Some people don't like change but I guess I'm not one of them. Or perhaps it is just limited change I like. To my husband's current dismay I helped build a 4000 square foot house in Romania in 2001. We took it from slab to fully furnished in 11 days. I therefore have meager patience for the pace of building here in Arizona.

Finishing Touches

I have been making fabric baskets to hold extra sewing "stuff". Probably need a few more still. Today I put together some fabric in hoops to add some color to the walls. May add a few more of those too.

Laundry/Craft Room Redo

Bet you thought this blog was done. Well, I resurrect it every few years. Back in 2007 we declared the house done except for the decorating....well that continues to this day! On December 2, 2005 I posted photos of the laundry/craft room. Except for adding the washer, dryer, and lots of "stuff" that is pretty much how it has looked ever since. In the last 3 years I have been on a roll putting all those boxes of photographs into scrapbooks for my kids. I have finished and given them 8 so far. Still working on the family Christmas album and have the high school album for the youngest to do. But our daughter announced that we will soon be grandparents and I switched into sewing mode. One messy hobby in a small space is bad enough but add another and the room was out of control!! So I began looking for organizing ideas and this weekend I began to turn all the ideas into reality. Now as I remember it, blogspot posts my photos backwards from what I think I am doing. So you can put it all together, there will be some of the baby sewing I have been doing; then my new shelf above the sewing area; my new project board--with a fabric I absolutely love; my new project board cover for the ironing board cabinet; other miscellaneous shots of the room. And probably in reverse order!

I want to post some new items on this blog, but there seems to be a problem in uploading photos. This is testing mode.

They are married!!

Getting Ready!

What a busy day a wedding day is! The bride was off to get her makeup done and then her hair fixed. Mom was there to take pictures and pay the bills. Then back to the site to get dressed. They chose to have all their pictures except those with the famlies taken pre-wedding. They had a special private moment when they first saw each other, then pictures with their attendants, and then the photographer took the 2 of them off for some special private pictures somewhere...either the beach or the lighthouse...I'll see when we get the official photographs. Meanwhile Anna's dad and brothers were picking up the 21 pies, the groom's father was delivering the alcohol, the bride's aunt, uncle, and sister-in-law brought up a carload of decorations that had come from Arizona and the groom's mother's friends brought down the decorations they had and the reception flowers. The florist brought the bouquets and corsages. Some other friends of the groom's mom helped pull it all together along with the help of all of us who were there. Finally the bride and groom were back and we had a few minutes to relax before the actual ceremony.

Rehersal Dinner

The rehersal dinner was Friday night at La Jolla Shores Hotel which is right on the beach. We were set up on their patio but thankfully they were using the big heater lamps. The wedding party, the extended families, and a number of out of town guests were all there. After the lovely dinner we went inside an adjoining room where there was a fantastic spread of desserts to get us ready... Then we saw a slideshow of their early lives and them as a couple. Then people got up to tell stories...mostly roasting Adam! Anna had her gaterade in a fancy wine glass and still didn't feel well but she enjoyed talking with the guests anyway.

Friday...rehersal time!

Friday dawned cold and gray...ugh! We are from Arizona where we are used to 100 degrees so we were cold! Anna still wasn't feeling well so consultations with all wedding party connections in the health field began. Then off to the rehersal. The place they had chosen for the wedding site does a wedding every day of the weekend and some weekdays too so our rehersal was at 10 am. The moms all tried to direct things but it wasn't until the pastor showed up that it really came together. How do you organize 3 bridesmaids and 9 groomsmen?

Thursday Events

Thursday morning began with a phone call from Anna saying that she was sick and could she come stay with us? She spent the day in our hotel bed resting as we all hoped this was just a case of pre-wedding exhaustion. After supplying her with gaterade and saltines the rest of us headed back to Balboa Park to visit the Museum of Man. As we finished up, Jon checked Nick's flight, saw it was coming in early and we made it to the airport just as he came out to the curb. Another check on Anna and off to lunch. When we got back we found Adam with Anna as they tried to finish up their vows and other elements for the ceremony. This was the evening Adam's parents were having all the family members for a BBQ at their home. But Anna had a few remaining unfinished projects which were still up there too. So we headed up in rush hour traffic. While the guys snacked and chatted, Courtney and I got the gold spray paint and went to work. Adam's side yard and garage became our workrooms. Various members of the groom's family would wander through to see what we were up to, but we got everything done and got a great dinner too.
