Travels in the West

The last of the Layton children has graduated!! We are in the midst of a western road trip, all connected with this event. Nicholas has been at Chico State in northern California, but this fall he will be doing an internship in Boulder, Colorado. Our trip first included a stop in Livermore, CA to attend a retirement party for one of Dave's coworkers. We got to see lots of old friends and we discovered a number of people actually still check up on us via this blog. So "Hi to all you in the Livermore, Tri-Valley area!!" Then on to Chico and the Big event (see photo). Then we tried to pack up our minimalist child, only to discover all his stuff wouldn't fit!! So we left the box spring and mattress and then, no problem getting the rest in. Off to Reno, where we drove by a grass fire, rapidly becoming a forest fire, right on the hillside above the road. Across Nevada, Utah (Salt Lake City), Wyoming, where we fould ourselves driving through snow!!! It was 100 when we left and now it was below freezing. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then we turned south into Colorado. The mountain tops are covered in fresh snow-beautiful. Jon and Nick will run Monday in the Boulder Boulder 10k race. Before that we are moving both boys' stuff into storage and maybe we will get in some touristy things as well.Stay tuned for the rest of the trip.

Finally Finished!!!!

I suppose you may have thought we were done before, but in our own minds we always had "one more thing....". But we painted the new patio seating wall and repainted the outside wall, and we have ordered an outdoor table and chairs set. So... we can declare the house finished at last. That is not to say it is fully furnished or decorated but that is a whole different catagory, one that is never declared "done". Here is the photo evidence that we were the workers and the final product.
